Go Bold!

Being a makeup artist is like being a magician, except instead of pulling rabbits out of hats, you're transforming faces with a flick of a brush. And when I get the chance to team up with a photographer like Erika Kearns of Blissful Moments Photography, it's like being part of a secret society of creatives, working together to create something truly magical.

What I loved the most about this particular shoot was that I got the opportunity to play with bold and creative makeup. It's so easy to get stuck in a makeup routine and not push yourself outside your comfort zone. But when you have a stunning dress, an empty field, a professional makeup artist and photographer, along with a brilliant sunset as your inspiration, it's the perfect time to go bold or go home.

For this shoot, I went all out with a high fashion, dramatic makeup look on my gorgeous wife and model Mary Avalon. I started by prepping her skin with Tatcha’s Liquid Skin Canvas, ensuring that every inch was smooth and ready for creative magic. Then, I got to work on the eyes, creating a colorful look using Urban Decay’s Electric Palette of bright pinks, oranges, and yellows, with a pop of blue just like that brilliant sunset in the background. And let's not forget about the lips, which tie everything together with a burnt orange shade that matched the dress so perfectly that it was meant to be.

But it's not just about the makeup. It's also about the location. Erika scouted out the perfect spot in Baker, FL - an open field of yellow wildflowers with the sun setting in the background. As Mary and Lisa (The model in the pink dress who did an amazing job on her own bold makeup look) started to prance around in their statement dresses, I knew that this shoot was going to be something special.

The images captured by Erika are truly magical, and it's a reminder that it's okay to step outside of our comfort zone and try something new, whether it's a bold makeup look, a new outfit, or booking your first high fashion photoshoot just for you. We often limit ourselves to what we think others expect from us. This could mean sticking with a makeup routine you don’t love, or wearing clothes that don’t allow you to express your creative spirit. Here is your invitation to take risks, you will be surprised at how good it feels to see yourself in a new light and allow space for growth and new experiences.

So, there you have it. Working on projects like this with other creatives is truly my happy place as a makeup artist. It requires creativity, collaboration, and a touch of magic. But when it all comes together, it's like being part of a community of creatives, making art that's sassy, bold, and magnificent. And who knows, maybe the next time you have a special occasion or photo shoot, you'll be inspired to step outside your comfort zone and try a bold and creative makeup look too… OR give me a call! I’d love to help you make some magic of your own!
